Urbanology

Give me verity cause I need some clarity
The vestries losing its gold, and you want to test me?
What you don't know is that yesterday
As rain fell onto the lake,
I looked around and found my big mistake.
You see a cherub came to me and gave me wings,
Told me about life and all sorts of things.
Like forbidden love, elusive rings
broke-down palaces and dying kings.
I stopped at the Pylon,
It told me to go away but I sensed I should go on.
In-between the pillars of dire,
Where people burn in never-ending fire.
Screams come from below
While everyone sits atop pretending they don't know.
That someone just breathed their last gulp of air
for nobody was there to care,
goddamn this world is so unfair.
It's as if we don't see the signs
Of the changing times.
I heard you say this life is like a race,
But I'm going to a different place
At a different pace.
I thought about it for some time.
In the morning I stretched and moaned
This body I decided must be honed.
I shall sculpt a machine
So I am quick and never seen.
Running around the globe
In a cloaked robe.
What will I see?
What will I be?
Will I find she?
Or simply me?
It's ok, for I'll be free…
Free of doubt
Full of answers
Though with a mind numbed by tiny-dancers
Tapping all over my thoughts.
I worry that I need a linchpin on my brain
So I don't go insane
Like losing everything in the nepenthe
Asking myself if it could be?
The door is locked and my key-
My key it went missing,
A couple on the stoop is scrappily kissing.
A wino is behind the dumpster pissing.
I just want to go and lay in my bed
Put pillows over my aching head
Wake up in the morning and forget what was she said.
Cause tonight all I've got
is urbanology creeping and crawlin'
through me instead.
