Steger Words

Midnight Moonlight Suite

I can hear hooves
calling from the cobblestones
smell the magnificent darkly-lit-light
snow is on the horizon
the wood is neatly stacked
all and sundry
are bunkered down for-the-night

fire burns good and slow
by early morn
ashes glow—
embers like a village we used to know

white piled high
all through the day
we ate smoked fish
drank the afternoon away

when day was done
as was the sun
we hit the backwoods
for one last moonlit powder run

she blazed the trail, love set sail
torch was bright
as was the night
and in that tawny moonlight
the future came
crispclear to sight

yesterday was dark
but tomorrow we embark
with tears and smiles
to the house on the hill
where love shall shine until…
