Kale Fields

In a field of kale
she fingered its' tops
The first frost
had finally arrived
The nite before
after poaching each one
she sliced pears
as if they held the secrets
of the future
Her eyes gazed out the window
past the fields
and into the forest
where he lay
With lips pressed
upon a Shakespearian dream
she remembered the words
and sang them aloud
It was the best holiday
since she was a young girl
and knew yet what the world
had in store for her
She made a wish
and with it her heart did settle—
misplaced dreams came back to life
